Rebranding the historic Charles Wells brewery after acquisition by Marston’s

Crafting the new Eagle Brewery and product branding for Marston’s after acquisition from Charles Wells.

Marston’s PLC approached Bonfire to create a bold new brand for the newly named Eagle brewery that was fitting of an organisation with an enviable heritage as a master brewer and a long-standing relationship with the town of Bedford.

The contemporary new eagle identity represented a unique point of view and repositioned the brand as a progressive, forward thinking business.

Working closely with the Marston’s team Bonfire developed the brand story, identity, brand and then product range. Feedback from retailers was so positive that the brewery identity was adapted for its Eagle IPA brand as well as sparking a wave of new product development.

RESULTS

  • Response from on- and off-trade precipitated branding application to Eagle IPA
  • Month-on-month sales of Eagle IPA increased by 112.5%
  • Well received by Marston’s, on-trade, retail and the local community
  • Online press coverage reached 691m with an estimated 64.7k coverage views
