Bonfire expands the management team

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Paul Pisani, Senior Account ManagerPaul Pisani joins us as senior account manager this month, building up the account managing dream team alongside Gemma Umney and led by Director Stephen Judge.

Paul joins with a rich bag of experience working as account manager in various roles over a career spanning 15 years (and going strong). He has worked with big names such as SKY, ITV, Orange, Fremantle Media, TUI, INBEV, Spirit and Brains Brewery.

He sees his role as the broker between creativity and its appropriate application to business challenges. He enjoys working in a place aligned to his values and is satisfied when he can see the work makes a difference.

Paul adds  “I have known of Bonfire for many years now and I love their creativity and determination to do a good job for their clients. It is also a fun, relaxing environment with lots of people with varied experience.”

When not account managing he is wakeboarding, running and biking, which is a good job because his other hobby is consuming Italian food. With Mic Cooking it and Paul eating it, Paul is the second Italian to join us in a month, which now makes us one sixth Italian…

The creative team expands

Mic Perrina, DesignerBonfire extends a warm welcome to Mic Perrina, the newest member of our creative core. Mic despite his baby-faced good looks joins us with over 12 years of design experience at local agency Litchfield Creative following his graphic design qualification at Bedford College.

Mic is a great addition and says “After 12 years in the industry I was looking for a new challenge. Bonfire provide the opportunity I was looking for and ticked all the right boxes. What I love about Bonfire is the team. A solid team that has a wealth of experience and one that’s constantly pushing the boundaries, and aims to complete every project to the highest possible standard. I feel very proud to now be part of this team.”

He brings with him a wealth of creativity, design skills, a high attention to detail, a wealth of technical knowledge and communication skills and a keen interest in design, branding and cooking Italian food. We are still trying to persuade him to bring his cooking skills to work, but we are not sure how much Italian food you could cook on the company barbecue…

Happy New Year

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Firstly Happy New Year and welcome to 2010 to all of our clients, suppliers, business contacts, staff, friends of the company and cyber-passers-by. We hope you all had a great break and have a prosperous year ahead.

This year will see another important phase in Bonfire’s development and the conclusion of an 18 month period of serious business planning. At the core of this transition is a restructure of resources, the further development of a 2 year rebranding programme, new client partnerships and business opportunities, not least to mention:

  1. The hunt for new premises as we have now filled the units we have at Woburn Street in Ampthill.
  2. The completion of a recent agency acquisition in January, more on that in the next week or so.
  3. The formal announcement of the Envibra Group through a merger in the spring with a London based PR company, Friday’s PR. This brings with it a host of complementary services, expertise, resources and a London office to the benefit of all our clients.
  4. The final phase of the Select Education to Randstad Education brand transition that we have been working on for the past 16 months, due to complete in January 2011.
  5. The inauguration of what we hope will be a long and successful partnership with Wells and Young’s after the recent completion of the Charles Wells Annual Report 2009 amongst other projects.
  6. The continuing work on the Chad Valley brand with Argos after the initial work done last year.
  7. And last, but not least, the ongoing and successful relationships with all our clients, old and new alike.

2010 will not be without its challenges but with a clear vision, the right resources and a commitment to clear and consistent communication we will be here supporting your businesses as dedicated and as strong as ever.

We also have a new member of the team to announce. We would like to welcome Keeley Farrar, from Hanson Brick, who joined us in November as receptionist and much needed back-office support. Keeley is a delight to work with as most of you already know and is a great addition to the team. And we have more staff to announce at the end of January!

Anyway back to work and on with 2010. Wishing you all the best.

Who said fun run?

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Well it’s that time of year again when we all add a few inches, watch a whole host of television that we would have otherwise missed,

The Bonifre team at the 5k Santa run for Keech Cottage.

The Bonifre team at the 5k Santa run for Keech Cottage.

and wonder what happened to the year. December has come around so quickly and this is a short note to advise you of a few things.

Firstly we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and as those of you who received our Christmas mailing will be aware this year’s competition question was ‘In total, how many gifts were given in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas’. The correct answer is 364 and congratulations to Paul who is now the owner of a new Orange iPod Nano. There were a total of 35 entries, of which 10 were correct and entered into the draw.

This is a popular, well known conundrum and the answer is calculated using the following formula. On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree, on the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me two turtle doves and a partridge in a pair tree. If you read it literally, on the second day there were 3 gifts given – both a partridge in a pear tree and two turtle doves. Then if you follow this logic throughout the song your total will reach 364. Easy.

If you missed the mailer but would still like to view the festive microsite and learn a few tricks you can click here, but please note that the draw has now closed!! We would also like to thank all our clients, suppliers and contacts for their donation choices. You raised £110 for Keech Cottage and £30 for the Forest of Marston Vale.

The Bonfire team also collectively raised £865 in the Keech Cottage 5k Santa Run on the 6th December 2009 (well done John for coming second!!) and we would like to congratulate Steve on his silly beard antics that ended on the 30th November, as seen in the Mail on Sunday, raising a further £670 for Keech Cottage. A time for giving indeed, and a very worth cause so thanks to everyone who supported us. On another note Gemma also completed a sponsored swim (22 miles in 12 weeks – distance of the channel) raising £430 for Aspire – so at least one of us will be in shape for the Christmas calories!!!

On a slightly more serious note, and for your reference, we will be closing our doors at 1pm on the 24th December 2009 and reopening them on 4th January 2010 to start another exciting year – our 10th!!!

Once again have a great break and a wonderful New Year!

All the best

The Bonfire Team xx

Bonfire Creative Intelligence has picked up a ‘Highly commended’ in the category of ‘Best

Awards scheme 2009.

Awards scheme 2009.

SME Campaign’ at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards 2009. The judges were very impressed that a small consultancy had an CSR Policy and actions plan. They also thought it innovative to take staff to see their nominated charity, leading to 100% staff take up.

The National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards have been established in conjunction with the Institute of Fundraising and the Payroll Giving Centre and are designed to showcase the best Payroll Giving schemes in the UK.

Any employer who has achieved a Bronze, Silver or Gold Quality Mark Award in that year is eligible to submit an entry to the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards.

Having been granted a Gold Quality Mark Award earlier in the year Bonfire had been shortlisted for 2 categories, ‘Best Launch of New Scheme’ and ‘Best SME Campaign’. Each category had levels ‘Highly Commended’ and ‘Overall Winner’.

Within these categories Bonfire were up against the likes of Beaverbrook’s, Flight Centre, Kellogg’s and Haygarth. Other winners included Think Money Group, Aviva, Whitbread Group PLC, Howdens Joinery Co, Henderson Group, London Borough of Islington, Police Service of Northern Ireland and The British Heart Foundation.

Bonfire congratulates all the winners and those shortlisted for the awards; and also all those companies and staff out there taking part in the Payroll Giving Scheme – keep up the good work.

Bonfire CI go global with social media!

On Friday the 21st August Mario Cacciottolo, founder of the website

Jason's SOTM

Jason's SOTM

www.someoneoncetoldme.com, was invited by Bonfire Creative Intelligence to visit Ampthill in Bedfordshire.

www.someoneoncetoldme.com has a global following and has enjoyed much media coverage. Like all good ideas, the premise is simple: the site invites people to share something that someone once told them and lets them to tell their story. One picture per day is shown, and all are compelling.

Over 9 different organisations took part and Mario took away 14 new pictures for the website. The organisations that took part were Bonfire Creative Intelligence (an Ampthill-based branding consultancy) Leon Pearce (a Luton-based photographer), Ampthill Fireplaces, The Cooks Collection and Antiques Emporium (all in Ampthill), The Bedfordshire Humanists, Clarity in Communication Consultancy, Goodthings, Crisp Solutions, Panic, and the chef from The Prince of Wales! As for the pictures from the day – you will have to wait and see!

It was a fantastic day. The shots from the day will feature on the site over the next few months. This shows that small Bedfordshire businesses are up for taking part in community creative projects.

Do take a look at the site, and perhaps submit some of your own photos.

Bedfordshire based design agency, Bonfire Creative Intelligence, the first ever agency to be accredited by the Design Association, have now successfully seen their entire studio of creative staff individually assessed and awarded a diploma by the Chartered Society of Designers.

Professional accreditation has become important in Bonfire’s development, “The process of accreditation is as important as the accreditation itself” says Stephen Judge MCSD, Strategic Development Director, “it allows us to look at our business practices from a different perspective and to continue to improve our service. I am really proud of the team and am pleased that they were accredited together.”

The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) is the professional body for designers and with over 3000 members in 34 countries, it is the world’s largest chartered body of professional designers.

Membership is only awarded to those designers who can demonstrate their professional capability and they are obliged to practice to the highest professional standards.

The accreditation came as a pleasant surprise to former Bedford College student Andrew Foster. Having first joined Bonfire as a student placement two years ago Andrew feels that the CSD award is a positive step in his career, “The assessment was a rewarding experience, it has given my confidence a real boost and I am proud to be part of the leading professional body for designers”.

Payroll Giving Gold Award 2009

Payroll Giving Gold Award 2009

Bedfordshire-based business Bonfire Creative Intelligence has been rewarded for fostering a culture of giving in the workplace with a Gold Award, the highest Award available through the Payroll Giving Quality Mark programme.

100% of their employees have opted to give money out of their monthly pay packet to Keech Cottage Children’s hospice, one of their charity partners.

“Bonfire’s achievement of 100% participation is fantastic for Keech Cottage and goes to show their level of commitment towards us. For us having a regular, reliable source of income helps us to plan our children’s care in advance. Congratulations on the Gold Quality Mark Award.” Says Paul Sutherland, Corporate Fundraiser at Keech Cottage.

“Even though we are only a small company we understand that we can and should make a difference and payroll giving is one way of achieving this’, says Bonfire Director Jason Pearce “We are proud of the generosity that our team have shown. We’re pleased to be supporting Keech Cottage and the great work they do, and would urge other companies to do the same.”

Commitment to the Payroll giving scheme is just one strand of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that Bonfire now undertake since their CSR audit and review in 2008. They have streamlined their support and now have two charity partners, Keech Cottage and The Marston Vale Trust, to which they give their dedicated support, including donating design time. They also provide support to new designers through offering workshops and portfolio surgeries to Bedford College.

The Payroll Giving Quality Mark aims to provide sustainable income sources for UK charities by increasing participation in Payroll Giving. The scheme recognises and rewards businesses for making Payroll Giving available to staff, providing them with a certificate and use of a logo which enables them to publicly demonstrate their commitment to good causes. Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are allocated to organisations that demonstrate excellence in fostering a culture of giving in the workplace through Payroll Giving.

By setting up Payroll Giving, employers enable their employees to give to any UK charity straight from their gross salary and to get immediate tax relief of up to 40% on each donation. Payroll Giving has minimal administrative requirements or costs and is an ideal way for organisations at all budget levels to generate a regular, reliable income stream for good causes.
