Bedfordshire-based design agency Bonfire Creative Intelligence led a Branding Masterclass for HND Graphic Design students at Bedford College on the 30th April 2009.

Students deliberate big brands.

Students deliberate big brands.

30 students took part in the session led by Stephen Judge, Strategic director of the Bonfire and former Bedford College Student. He said of the day “We get a real buzz from linking our current business with the education of new talent. The students were really engaged with the session and we were happy to be involved.”

The Masterclass is being followed by a number of portfolio surgeries throughout May in which students will receive professional feedback on their portfolios from both Directors of Bonfire.

Jeffery Tribe, Head of Graphic Design at Bedford College remarked “This was a unique opportunity to underpin and challenge our brand awareness teaching with a series of fun and engaging activities delivered by truly dedicated professionals”.

Bedfordshire based design agency, Bonfire Creative Intelligence, the first ever agency to be accredited by the Design Association, have now successfully seen their entire studio of creative staff individually assessed and awarded a diploma by the Chartered Society of Designers.

Professional accreditation has become important in Bonfire’s development, “The process of accreditation is as important as the accreditation itself” says Stephen Judge MCSD, Strategic Development Director, “it allows us to look at our business practices from a different perspective and to continue to improve our service. I am really proud of the team and am pleased that they were accredited together.”

The Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) is the professional body for designers and with over 3000 members in 34 countries, it is the world’s largest chartered body of professional designers.

Membership is only awarded to those designers who can demonstrate their professional capability and they are obliged to practice to the highest professional standards.

The accreditation came as a pleasant surprise to former Bedford College student Andrew Foster. Having first joined Bonfire as a student placement two years ago Andrew feels that the CSD award is a positive step in his career, “The assessment was a rewarding experience, it has given my confidence a real boost and I am proud to be part of the leading professional body for designers”.

Payroll Giving Gold Award 2009

Payroll Giving Gold Award 2009

Bedfordshire-based business Bonfire Creative Intelligence has been rewarded for fostering a culture of giving in the workplace with a Gold Award, the highest Award available through the Payroll Giving Quality Mark programme.

100% of their employees have opted to give money out of their monthly pay packet to Keech Cottage Children’s hospice, one of their charity partners.

“Bonfire’s achievement of 100% participation is fantastic for Keech Cottage and goes to show their level of commitment towards us. For us having a regular, reliable source of income helps us to plan our children’s care in advance. Congratulations on the Gold Quality Mark Award.” Says Paul Sutherland, Corporate Fundraiser at Keech Cottage.

“Even though we are only a small company we understand that we can and should make a difference and payroll giving is one way of achieving this’, says Bonfire Director Jason Pearce “We are proud of the generosity that our team have shown. We’re pleased to be supporting Keech Cottage and the great work they do, and would urge other companies to do the same.”

Commitment to the Payroll giving scheme is just one strand of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that Bonfire now undertake since their CSR audit and review in 2008. They have streamlined their support and now have two charity partners, Keech Cottage and The Marston Vale Trust, to which they give their dedicated support, including donating design time. They also provide support to new designers through offering workshops and portfolio surgeries to Bedford College.

The Payroll Giving Quality Mark aims to provide sustainable income sources for UK charities by increasing participation in Payroll Giving. The scheme recognises and rewards businesses for making Payroll Giving available to staff, providing them with a certificate and use of a logo which enables them to publicly demonstrate their commitment to good causes. Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards are allocated to organisations that demonstrate excellence in fostering a culture of giving in the workplace through Payroll Giving.

By setting up Payroll Giving, employers enable their employees to give to any UK charity straight from their gross salary and to get immediate tax relief of up to 40% on each donation. Payroll Giving has minimal administrative requirements or costs and is an ideal way for organisations at all budget levels to generate a regular, reliable income stream for good causes.

January round-up – In to the 8th…

January 31st, 2008

January sees the beginning of 2008 and also the end of another financial year for us at Bonfire – and what a year it has been!

We have welcomed a number of new faces into the Bonfire fold: the studio was joined by Andrew and Michelle; our administration capacity increased with the appointment of Alison; and Louise Basquill, of Bluefin Marketing, joined as a Director which has boosted our client portfolio, PR and account management capabilities.

We enjoyed global coverage of our DA accreditation in the DMI Review and a double page spread in The Designer magazine. But the best was yet to come – the Bonfire team were invited to a meal at St. James’s Palace and met Prince Philip himself.

With the joining of Louise Bonfire underwent a management restructure and the introduction of key accounts such as the Advance Group and Cognisco, along with the development of existing accounts such as NEC, Olympus and Avery Dennison. Bonfire also formed the Envibra group. The group will be formally announced in time, so more on that soon.

The past year has also seen Bonfire working overtime in the CSR department with a host of activity including:

  1. Sponsoring Steve’s trek to Machu Picchu for Macmillan Cancer Support
  2. Working closely with Bedford College – sponsoring awards, taking student placements and setting briefs
  3. Supporting Sports Aid with a table at their Bedford lunch
  4. Developing marketing collateral for David Hadley’s Antarctic Microlight Challenge
  5. Engaging the local community in our ‘I love Ampthill’ art competition, the winning piece of which is on display in our entrance foyer

We continue with our commitment to corporate social responsibility and are currently working on a new and improved CSR policy for 2008 in conjunction with CSR consultants Goodthings.

2008 also started well for us winning a tender to produce the identity and website for recruitment company AIDA, working on the rebrand of quality printer Newnorth Print and developing a new identity, suite of literature and website for our existing client Pristine.

As Bonfire enters its 8th year we would like to thank you all for your support with many more great stories already in the making including the final development of our unique brand/visual auditing process and a very exciting piece of news for the creative industry across the region – more on that soon!

Love
The Bonfire Team xx

November round-up – Mixing fire and water…

November 30th, 2007

Well what a couple of months it has been. And we have some great news.

Bedfordshire based creative companies Bonfire Design and Bluefin Marketing have joined forces in a bid to strengthen the breadth of services available to their current clients and reinforce their position as a real contender for major brand business.

The combined agency’s services include marketing strategy, product launch, name generation, brand development, identity, literature, websites, point-of-sale, packaging and PR. The company, recently rebranded as ‘Bonfire Creative Intelligence’, is headed up by Stephen Judge – Strategic Development Director, Jason Pearce – Creative Services Director and Louise Basquill – Marketing & Account Director.

Louise Basquill – Marketing & Account Director states:
“This is a very exciting time for us. We are already seeing the added value we can offer to clients by combining the skills from the two previous companies. The combination of Bonfire’s nationally recognised design capabilities and Bluefin’s focus in delivering measurable commercial outcomes give us a compelling proposition.”

Stephen Judge – Strategic Development Director adds:
“This year started very well for Bonfire. Becoming the first agency in the UK to be accredited by the Design Association was a great accolade. The merger with Bluefin means we’ll be ending the year on a high too. We’re already in talks with some of the UK’s biggest brands, which should see an expansion in our portfolio of clients in early 2008. It’s further evidence that you don’t have to be based in London to offer national and international brands the service and creativity they deserve.”

This is a big move and one that we hope you will all appreciate and benefit from.
